Where it all began
Sherway Family Fun Day is a free, family-based event designed to bring Sherway residents together and rebuild a sense of community. What started as a modest gathering planned in under 90 days has grown into one of the neighbourhood's most anticipated summer traditions.
This page celebrates the early years — 2021 and 2022 — that laid the foundation for everything that followed, including our landmark 50th Anniversary celebration in 2026.
Family Fun Day 2022
Family Fun Day 2022 was by all accounts a complete success and has become SHORA's most anticipated summer event. Building on the momentum of the inaugural 2021 event, the 2022 edition brought more families, more activities, and more community spirit to Laughton Heights Park.
The day would not have been possible without the generosity of our many sponsors and donors, and the tireless help of community volunteers who gave their time to make it happen.
A growing tradition: The 2022 event cemented Family Fun Day as a cornerstone of the Sherway community calendar — a day where neighbours of all ages come together for free food, live music, kids' activities, and a genuine sense of belonging.
What was on offer
Residents enjoyed a free BBQ, ice cream, bouncy castles, live music, children's games, sports clinics, and a range of activities for the whole family — all within walking distance of the park's amenities.

Family Fun Day 2021 — The First One
The very first Sherway Family Fun Day was a modest event planned and executed in less than 90 days. Born out of a desire to bring Sherway families back together in a post-pandemic world, it laid the foundation and framework for every event that followed.
Despite its humble beginnings, the 2021 event proved that the Sherway community was ready to reconnect — and that there was real appetite for a free, family-friendly gathering right in the neighbourhood.
The spark: What began as a small community initiative in 2021 has grown into an annual tradition that now draws hundreds of residents and has celebrated SHORA's 50th anniversary milestone in 2026.
The vision
Sherway Family Fun Day was carefully planned to socialise, promote community participation, and encourage interaction of all ages in a family-friendly environment — a vision that continues to guide the event to this day.
