About Deck The Streets
Every December, the Sherway neighbourhood transforms into a winter wonderland as residents compete in SHORA's annual Deck The Streets holiday lights competition. From modest wreaths to elaborate light displays, the event celebrates community spirit and the joy of the season.
Deck The Streets has become one of the most anticipated events on the SHORA calendar, drawing families from across the neighbourhood to stroll the streets and admire the creativity and effort of their neighbours.
How It Works
Participating is simple — just decorate your home and register with SHORA before the judging date. Our volunteer judges will tour the neighbourhood and award prizes in several categories:
- Best Overall Display — the most impressive and creative decoration
- Most Festive — captures the holiday spirit best
- Best Newcomer — for first-time participants
- People's Choice — voted on by the community
Winners are announced at a small ceremony and featured on the SHORA website and social media.
When & Where
Deck The Streets takes place throughout December, with judging typically occurring in the second week of the month. The entire Sherway neighbourhood — bounded by the Queensway (north), Etobicoke Creek (east), the QEW (south), and Dixie Road (west) — is the venue.
